ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Over the last couple of weeks, the University of New Mexico women’s basketball team has enjoyed the start to the 2016 summer.
The team began its summer workouts in preparation for the 2016-17 season. Most of the student-athletes arrived in early June for summer school and immediately began working out as a team. Workouts have consisted of early morning conditioning and lifting with strength coach Carla Garrett, along with afternoon workouts on the court with the new coaching staff.
In between workouts, the student-athletes have focused on school, getting the freshman acclimated to college courses. The Lobos will continue their workouts throughout July before heading into the fall for school and the beginning of season in October.
Along with workouts, the Lobos have hosted a couple of camps, the first camps under head coach Mike Bradbury. Last weeks camp started on June 13 and ran through June 16, giving the campers four full days of Lobo basketball action.
Over 70 campers participated last week. Each day the campers started out with a warm-up, continued throughout the morning with fundamental drills and finished up with a few games.
The Lobos will open up their season on Nov. 1 with an exhibition contest against Fort Lewis.
