LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The University of New Mexico men’s tennis team finished its fall season at the 2016 ITA Regional Championships on Saturday.
In the doubles of the main draw, Ricky Hernandez-Tong/ Rodolfo Jauregui battled Alex Gasson/ Yannik James of Denver in the semifinals. The duo was defeated in three sets 4-6, 7-5, 10-5.
In singles play of the consolation draw, Jauregui defeated Slava Shainyan of Utah 0-6, 6-1, 10-5, in the fourth round and also defeated Lucas Fumagalli of Air Force in the quarterfinals 6-4, 6-2. He advanced to face Dan Little of Utah in the semifinals but withdrew due to personal circumstance.
In doubles play of the consolation draw, Sean Baklini/ Jorge Escutia defeated Cassell King/ Kyle Pease of UNC 8-5 in the quarterfinals. They advanced to the semifinals to play Jonas Maier/ Jack Swindells of Utah State but the duo also withdrew due to personal circumstance.
After competing in tournaments over the last couple of weeks, the team plans to rest for a few days and then continue training for their first match of the upcoming season. The Lobos Men’s Tennis team returns on Jan. 14, 2017 in Orlando, Fla. against the University of Central Florida.
