Men’s Tennis Battles in Balloon Fiesta Invite

Albuquerque, N.M.—The University of New Mexico men’s tennis squad hosted the first day of the Balloon Fiesta Invitational today at the McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium.
 
The Lobos started off with doubles play. Sean Baklini and Michael Tran defeated against Eden Peleg and Lucas Taylor of Northern Arizona University 8-7. Augustus Ge and Rodolfo Jaurgeui took on Mark Ihrig and Zach Fryer of Denver University and came out on top, winning 8-5. Both pairs move on to the quarterfinals in the draw.
 
In singles play,  Augustus Ge defeated Isaac Perez of Air Force Academy 6-3, 6-4. He moves on to the semi-finals of the Cherry Draw to play Will Kneale from the University of Arizona.
 
Michael Tran battled hard against New Mexico State University’s Enrique Asmar, but fell short. He goes on to play Paul Domanski from Abilene Christian College tomorrow. Jauregui also suffered a tough loss in singles play.
 
“We continue to work diligently on getting better this fall,” said assistant coach Ben Dunbar. “The overall theme has been toughness and problem solving on the court, we will look to work on that again tomorrow. Thanks to the fans who came out to watch today, we appreciate the support! Go Lobos!”
 
The Lobos continue to compete in the Balloon Fiesta Invite tomorrow and Sunday.
