Escutia to Advance to Round of 128 at All-American

Tulsa, Okla.—The University of New Mexico Men’s Tennis team competed in the 2015 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Championships yesterday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
 
In pre-qualifying, the round of 512, Bart Van Leijsen fought hard to defeat Lukas Moenter of Loyola Marymount 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.  He advanced to the round of 256 where he took on John Mee of Texas and lost 7-6 (2), 6-3.
 
In regular pre-qualifying play, Jorge Escutia defeated Mackenzie Stearns of Marquette 6-2, 6-4. He advances to the round of 128 to be played on Saturday.
 
Augustus Ge, Michael Tran, Roldofo Jauregui  and Sean Baklini also competed in the round of 256 on Saturday for pre-qualifying, but fell short to their opponents. They will compete in consolation matches later in the tournament.
 
“It was a good day in the sense that we got more quality reps against good opposition that will continue to help develop us as players,” said head coach Bart Scott. “We look to improve in certain areas tomorrow once again.”
