David Chiotti, joins the Lobos as Director of Player Development, a newly created position for the men’s basketball team. He played four seasons for the Lobos from 2002-06 under former head coach Ritchie McKay. He was a three-time All-Mountain West selection and helped guide the Lobos to a MW Tournament Championship in 2005.
Among the program, Chiotti was the ninth player in school history with over 1,100 points and 600 rebounds. He led the team in field goal percentage in all four seasons as a Lobo. He ranks 20th all-time on UNM’s scoring list and became the Lobos’ 23rd player to break the 1,000-point barrier.
Following his collegiate career, Chiotti played professional basketball overseas from 2007-14. During that span, he played for three different teams. His performances also helped him earn a spot on the Italian National Team.
“David worked our camps this summer and demonstrated great passion for Lobo basketball,” Weir said. “His past experiences will be a valuable resource to our current student-athletes. We also want all of our former players to know that if coaching is something they would like to pursue – we are always open to exploring those opportunities.”
