Indoor Track & Field (Freshman): Ran a 4:07.09 mile (4:01.71 converted) in his collegiate debut at the MLK Jr. Invitational … Won the 3,000 meters at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational (8:07.71) and placed second in the mile at the Mountain West Championships (4:03.57) after winning his prelim … Also took third in the 5,000 meters (13:45.92) and fifth in the 3,000 meters (8:04.87) at the conference meet.
Outdoor Track & Field (Freshman): Emerged as one of the nation’s top freshmen in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, opening with a school-record 8:22.13 victory at the Stanford Invitational that ranks among the Top 30 performances in collegiate history … Became the first Lobo to beat Harrison Koroso’s 8:33.34 mark that had stood as the UNM record since 1977 … went on to win the Mountain West title in the event (8:25.56) and qualified for the NCAA Championships with a dominant win at West Regionals… at NCAA Outdoor Champinoships in Eugene, Kosgei placed sixth nationally (8:23.70) to earn First Team All-American honors … Along the way, he also captured event wins in the 1,500 meters (3:46.69) that converts to a 3:39.54 (6th all-time at UNM) at the Don Kirby Tailwind Twilight and ran a personal-best 13:37.11 in the 5,000 at Bryan Clay that sits just outside the UNM All-Time Top 10 … Also placed fourth in the event at the MW Championships (13:39.35).
