COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Following a scoreless first half, Colorado College scored two goals 1:14 apart late in the match for the 2-0 final on Wednesday night.
UNM outshot CC 16-14 in the match, but CC had the 8-6 edge in shots on goal with Presley Devey leading the Lobos with six shots and three shots on goal in 52 minutes off of the bench.
The Lobos took the first shot of the match 6:47 in after a cross into the box by Anderson with Celina Frenz connecting on it and kicking it wide left.
A steal by Frenz in the 17th minute led to an opportunity for the Lobos with Frenz trying to pass it ahead to Anderson, but had a little too much touch on it with the Tiger defender and goalkeeper converging in the box to retain possess. Frenz fired a shot in the 18th minute that was saved for the first shot on goal by either team.
CC’s first shot came at the 18:10 mark, going high right, with Alyson Campbell called on to make her first of six saves in the 27th minute.
Anderson had another chance in the 31st minute with her shot going wide left and a shot by the Tigers in the 32nd minute blocked.
The score remained ties following a video review requested by CC in the 34th minute about a foul in the box was unsuccessful, and on the other end three minutes later, a corner kick by UNM in the 37th minute with Angelina Moschetti sending it into the box and Devey attempting to head it in low left was knocked out by a Tiger defender. A shot by Anderson sailed high in the 39th minute with a shot by CC on a corner kick in the 40th minute was saved by Campbell, knocking it out bounds for another corner kick that didn’t amount to anything.
CC took two final shots in the final five minutes, one that missed to the right and a shot that was blocked before the half came to a close.
The Tigers had a slight 6-5 edge in shots with both teams taking two shots on goal.
Anderson took the first shot of the second half that was blocked to set up a corner kick, and eventually a shot by Devey, who had space in the 51st minute, missing wide left. Devey had another chance set up by a corner kick in the 54th minute, with Devey attempting a header that also went wide left.
Consecutive saves by Campbell in the 59th and 60th minutes was followed by an offensive chance by Kennedy Brown with her shot missing in the 62nd minute. Devey had her shot in the 69th minute go wide right with the two goalies exchanging saves. After CC’s shot in the 72nd minute was saved by Campbell, Anderson’s shot low center was saved in the 73rd minute and Mia Barela’s shot low right was saved in the 74th minute.
Barela’s second shot in the 77th minute sailed high before the Tigers broke the stalemate on a goal with 78:40 on the clock on a cross into the box and a flick of the heel of the right foot towards bottom left that snuck inside the post. The Lobos challenged offside, which after video review, the goal was upheld.
Another offensive attack by the Tigers in which the Tiger dribbled down the middle of the field and into the box before crossing it from the right side back towards the middle. The cross was initially stopped by Campbell and a sliding Gabby Beaudry, but the deflection went towards a Tiger, who tapped it towards another Tiger player who put it in the net at 79:54.
Devey took two more shots on goal at 81:21 and 83:23 that were both saved with Claire Roybal taking the final shot of the match for the Lobos in the 88th minute that went high.
UNM outshot CC 11-8 in the final 45 minutes with four shots on goal.
The Lobos return home to host UC Davis on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. MT on MW+.
