USAFA, Colo. --- Sarah L'Allier and Ana Veroux blitzed through the Silver draw of doubles to take home a Bedford Cup doubles title, highlighting an opening weekend in which UNM grabbed 20 wins.
At the Bedford Cup, UNM faced several regional opponents, including Power 4 schools Utah and Texas Tech. Overall, UNM won 11 singles matches and nine doubles in the first tournament under new head coach Joe Vann.
L'Allier and Veroux had only one match with real drama: a quarterfinal against Colorado State's Stella Morgan and Leyla Tozin, which they won 7-6 (7-4). UNM's pair advanced with a 6-2 win over Idaho State's Macy Richard and Sophia Schorm.
The final two matches were both against Appalachian State players: a 6-2 win over Taya Powell and Ruby Broadbent, then a 6-3 win in the final against Steenidhi Balaji and Allegra Hodson.
UNM's twin tandem of Vianca and Vivica Corley went 3-1 in doubles, finishing fifth overall and defeating teams from Idaho, Colorado State, and Wyoming. Yu Yun "Kathy" Tsai and Marika Matsoukatidi went 2-2 with wins over Air Force and Utah State.
In singles, Viance Corley led the way with a fourth-place finish in the Alpha bracket with wins over Air Force and Colorado State.
She, Coumba Ben Niangadou, Tsai, and Veroux all went 2-2 in singles over the three-day tournament.
The squad will head to Oklahoma for a weekend event, the Tulsa Invitational.
