ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- It was another match that was headed to the wire, but before UNM could get it even, Wyoming's Sabrina Abriola took the final two games to beat Vivica Corley in three sets to clinch a closely contested 4-1 win for the Cowgirls.
Wyoming moved to 5-3 in the league and 11-7 overall. UNM dropped to 12-9 overall and 3-5 in the Mountain West. UNM hosts Utah State on Friday in its final home match of the season, which will be Senior Day.
The Lobos swept through doubles, getting an easy 6-1 win from Vianca and Vivica Corley at No. 1 doubles, and a 6-4 win from Yu Yun "Kathy" Tsai and Bente Vandeputte for the first point.
However, before UNM could get anymore points on the board, Wyoming clinched the win with four singles wins. The Cowgirls took three straight set wins, at the top three singles spots, to take a 3-1 lead. Tsai, the only Lobo to win her opening set, was forced into a third set, but both Marika Matsoukatidi and Vivica Corley bounced back to force third sets of their own, and the Lobos had an opportunity.
With Matsoukatidi and Tsai leading, Corley was down 4-3 but on serve when she was broken, and that turned the match in Wyoming's favor as Abriola served out the win and the 4-1 win.
