ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico Baseball fought into extras after falling down 16-10 and plated five runs in the bottom of the 10th in its third matchup with New Mexico State but couldn’t come all the way back as the Aggies (19-24, 8-13 C-USA) stranded the tying run on first to win 16-15 and clinch the season series.

A clutch RBI single from Akili Carris – his fourth hit of the day – and a massive grand slam from Antonio Gianni got the Lobos back in the game after NMSU scored six runs in the top of the 10th, with Anthony Diaz juicing a walk to get the tying run aboard with two outs. But Karsen Waslefsky popped up to the pitcher to end the game with UNM’s rally one run short.

UNM outhit the Aggies 16-13, with Carris (4-for-6, 2 R, 4 RBI, 2B, 3B) and Diaz (3-for-6, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2B, 3B) both coming up a homer shy of the cycle to lead the way and Luke Mansy (2 R, 1 RBI) and Antonio Gianni (2 R, 6 RBI, HR) both finishing with a pair of hits each. Karsen Waslefsky (1 RBI), Lenny Junior Ashby (2 R, 3 BB), Gene Trujillo (3 R, 1 RBI, 3 BB), Brodey Williams (2 R, 2 BB) and Khalil Walker (1 R, 1 RBI) all picked up a hit each.
