ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- New Mexico dropped the second game of its weekend series with Nevada 15-2 in eight innings Saturday as the Wolf Pack (21-14, 10-4 MW) run-ruled the Lobos to clinch the series.
RHP Ryan Castillo (2.0 IP, 7 H, 9 R / 9 ER, 3 BB, 1 K) was chased from the game early for the first time this season, being tagged for nine earned runs on seven hits in the opening two frames. LHP Samuel Jackson (0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K) produced the first out but cashed in two inherited runners from Castillo before a strong relief outing from RHP Tyler Do (4.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R / 5 ER), who held Nevada to just one run over the next four innings. LHP Matt Cornelius (1 IP, 2 H, 1 R / 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K) took over with nobody out in the top of the eighth.
UNM managed two runs on six hits, with Anthony Diaz, Karsen Waslefsky, Gene Trujillo, Brodey Williams, Garrett Rede and Akili Carris all finishing with one hit each – Williams and Lenny Junior Ashby) crossed home plate.
