RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Vivica Corley and Yu Yun "Kathy" Tsai each picked up a pair of wins as the Lobo train kept right on rolling, taking down UC Riverside on the road, winning 4-0, moving to 9-3 on the season. The Lobos head just down the road to take on Cal State Fullerton on Saturday at noon Mountain Time.
The Lobos swept doubles, taking two matches and leading a third. Bente Vandeputte teamed with Tsai at No. 2 doubles for an easy 6-1 win, and the Corley sisters (Vianca and Vivica) won 6-3 at No. 3 doubles to give the Lobos a quick 1-0 lead in the match.
Sarah L'Allier and Comba Ben Niangadou were up 4-3 at No. 1 doubles when that was halted.
In singles, but Tsai and Corley won to give UNM a 3-0 lead. Tsai had the easier time, winning 6-2, 6-2 over Camile Li, while Vivica won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6 singles over Juliana Galindo. That left UNM needing one point, and the only real question was which Lobo would finish first.
That turned out to be Ramona Petre, who won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 singles over Sam Condevillamar, just edging out Marika Matsoukatidi, who was up 6-3, 4-3.
NOTES: Tsai now has 28 combined wins as a freshman, 15 in doubles and 13 in singles ... Petre remained in the team lead for singles wins with 14 ... the Lobos improved to 9-1 at No. 3 singles, and 10-1 at No. 2 doubles ... Lea Malazdra missed her fifth match, and Ana Veroux missed her sixth straight.
