LUBBOCK, Texas — Lopsided first and eighth innings proved to be the difference as New Mexico Baseball was run-ruled in its first midweek matchup with Texas Tech Tuesday at Dan Law Field, falling 12-2 in eight innings.
The Lobos (15-10, 1-2 MW) never fully recovered from a six-run outburst in the opening frame despite keeping the Red Raiders (16-8, 4-2 Big 12) off the board in five frames — UNM plated two runs in the sixth before TTU responded with four more to end the game early in the eighth.
Six different Lobos picked up a knock apiece, with Anthony Diaz (1-for-3) and Shane Miller (1-for-2) both scoring runs and Garrett Rede (1-for-2) driving in a run with a double and Damian Garcia (0-for-0) bringing in another on a sac fly. Lenny Junior Ashby, Akili Carris, and Khalil Walker all added a hit each.
In total, seven Lobos toed the bump in a bullpen day for UNM. RHP Tyler Do (0.2 IP, 6 H, 6 R / 4 ER, 1 BB, 0 K) was tagged with the loss (1-3) after the Red Raiders jumped him for six runs — four earned — before he could get the final out in the first frame. RHP Tommy White (1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K) settled things down with four consecutive outs and RHP Seth Edgerton (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K) followed with another scoreless frame before LHP Samuel Jackson (1 IP, 2 H, 2 R / 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K) was tagged for two runs in the fourth to push the deficit to 8-0.
RHP Seth Lee (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K), RHP Ethin Woltz (2.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R / 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K) and LHP Matt Romero (0.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K) closed out the rest of the game.
