COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- Yu Yun "Kathy" Tsai picked up her first career weekly honor as she was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week by league officials after an opening weekend in which she went 4-0 on the week as the Lobos swept Western New Mexico and CSU Pueblo.
Tsai made her dual-match debut, playing No. 3 singles in both matches and Nos. 2 and 1 in doubles, switching partners in both.
Against Western New Mexico, she won 6-0 at No. 2 doubles before winning 6-1, 6-0 in singles, playing in the three-slot. In the afternoon match against CSU Pueblo, she moved to No. 1 doubles, winning 6-0. She again played at No. 3 singles, winning 6-1, 6-1.
Her double win against Western New Mexico clinched the doubles point for UNM as well. On the day, she won 36 of 39 games, including all 12 games in doubles.
Tsai and the Lobos head to Houston to take on UTRGV on Friday at 11 am Mountain Time, then play the host Cougars on Saturday at 9 am Mountain Time.
