HOUSTON, Texas --- As a freshman, Alice English earned All-Mountain West honors in the 3-meter springboard, and she just missed in the 1-meter. It took two years, but now she can add the 1-meter springboard to her All-Conference trophy case.

English, who qualified eighth to make it to the championship final, posted a 292.15 in the final round to finish sixth, earning All-Mountain West honors and pacing the way for the Lobos on Day One of the four-day Mountain West Championships.

English turned in three dives of over 50 points, including a forward 2 1/2 somersault pike that earned her a whopping 58.50, bringing in five 7.5 from the judges. English's finish gives UNM back-to-back All-Conference performances in the 1-meter, as former Lobo Isa Gomez was named All-Mountain West last year in the event.

English scored 24 points for UNM, the most by an individual on the day, and she was one of three Lobos to score in the 1-meter. Esme Abbadi-Macintosh was 22nd for three points, and Reed Moyer was 23rd for two points. Both were competing in their first Mountain West Championships.

Arianna Stokes was the only swimmer on the day to score, recording a 23.07 in the C-Final, besting her qualifying mark by 0.02 as she finished 21st overall for four points. While only Stokes scored, UNM has several solid marks in the pool. Kaylah Yazzie, Liv Hann, and Ava Schlosser all recorded PRs in the 50 Free. Sophia Corder opened the game with a PR in the 200 IM along with Molly Gorman.

Day One ended with the 400 Medley Relay with UNM coming in 11th with Rian Bleyendaal, Emily Ford, Corder, and Hann turning in a time of 3:48.63.

Action on Day Two starts in earnest at 10:30 am Central/9:30 am Mountain with the eight heats of the 100 Butterfly, starting at 10:30 Central. That will be followed by the 400 IM (five heats) and the 200 Free (eight heats). The 3-Meter Springboard will also be on Thursday morning, and the 200 Freestyle Relay will end the night.

The evening session starts at 6 pm Central Time.
