MOSCOW, Idaho --- The New Mexico women's tennis team kept rolling along Saturday, getting a decisive 6-1 victory over South Dakota, setting up a Sunday match at Gonzaga that could give UNM a three-match weekend sweep. The Lobos moved to 5-1 on the season.
UNM swept all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead handily. Vianca Corley and Coumba Ben Niangadou won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, Bente Vandeputte and Yu Yun "Kathy" Tsai won 6-1 at No. 2, and Ana Verous and Lea Malazdra stayed unbeaten in the spring, winning 7-5.
In singles, UNM had no problems, winning five singles matches. Only playing the first four singles matches due to court limitations, UNM clinched the win with three wins in singles. Vianca Corley won her second in a row with a straight set 6-3, 6-3 win, and Veroux kept up her hot play with a 6-3, 6-4 win. Tsai had the clincher at No. 4 with a 6-2, 7-5 win.
The teams finished the match, and Malazdra won at No. 5 by the same score as Tsai, 6-2, 7-5, and Ramona Petre won 6-1, 6-4 for the final point. The only blemish was a 6-4, 6-4 loss by Vandeputte against Selena Bird.
