SEATTLE, Wash. – New Mexico’s Habtom Samuel dominated the Men’s 3,000m races with a new school record to highlight eight personal bests on Day One of the UW Husky Classic at Dempsey Indoor Friday.

Tina Nisoli came up with yet another huge improvement in her first 3,000m race of the year, taking 28 seconds off her previous best of 9:41.75 to finish fifth overall in the open sections. In her first race away from Albuquerque this indoor season, Bitetti posted a 9:33.0 time to finish 24th overall.

Samuel finished just below the Dempsey facility record of 7:36.69 as he dominated the men’s 3K field in Seattle, finishing with a new personal best and UNM record in the process.
All six Lobos in the men’s 3,000m field notched new lifetime bests, with the Top Three all cracking the UNM All-Time Top 10 indoors. Sanchez took 1.42 seconds off his 7:46.43 time from Boston two weeks ago to remain at No. 3 on the UNM list, while Kiplagat took .21 seconds off his best time of 7:46.53 to move up to No. 4. The duo finished sixth and eight overall behind Samuel.
Matthew Endrody continued his breakout season with a 7:53.08 clocking that moves him into the No. 10 spot all-time – his first sub-8 minute performance collegiately – to finish 11th overall, while Vincent Chirchir ran below eight minutes for the first time in his career, shaving 14.09 seconds off his previous best of 8:09.75 to finish 17th. Jayden Hernandez finished 28th with a big improvement of his own, 17.06 seconds faster than his own collegiate best (8:25.64).

Abraham became the second Lobo this season to break the four-minute barrier with a 3:57.78 performance that is the exact same as his elevation conversion from earlier in the season, finishing ninth overall.
