ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- After a solid weekend in Texas where the Lobos split a pair of matches, UNM now heads to the Pacific Northwest for three matches in three days, looking to continue on a great start to the season.
The Lobos are 3-1 on the season, winning their first three matches before losing to unbeaten Houston. UNM's best win on the season was a thrilling 4-3 victory over UTRGV in which UNM came back from 3-2 down, getting wins from transfer Ana Veroux and freshman Yu Yun "Kathy" Tsai.
Tsai, who entered the week as the reigning Mountain West Freshman of the Week, clinched both the winning doubles point with that point tied, and then she clinched the overall win with the match tied at 3-3.
The Lobos will take on Idaho in Moscow on Friday before taking on South Dakota in a neutral-site match, both played in the Kibbie Dome. On Sunday, UNM will play at Gonzaga in Spokane to end the weekend.
Idaho is 2-5 on the season, with 4-3 wins over New Mexico State and Pacific. UNM will be the fourth straight Mountain West opponent for the Vandals, who have lost to Nevada 4-1, Colorado State 4-1, and Wyoming 5-2.
South Dakota is 3-2 on the season, winning its first three matches before losing its last two, Missouri State and Montana.
Gonzaga is also 3-2, and it hosts Utah State on February 14 before playing UNM. The Zags have lost two straight (4-2 to Xavier and 4-0 at Michigan State) after winning their first three matches of the season.
