ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico got a pair of 7-0 sweeps, taking care of Western New Mexico 7-0 and CSU Pueblo 7-0 as the Lobos opened its 2026 spring season.
The Lobos moved to 2-0 on the season and will head to Houston to take on UTRGV on Friday before playing host to Houston on Saturday.
The Lobos were able to get all 10 players on the roster into match action, led by Bente Vandeputte, who won both of her matches in her Lobo debut at No. 1 singles, dropping just two games across four sets. Yu Yun “Kathy” Tsai and Coumba Niangadou also went 2-0 in singles as UNM didn’t drop a set on the day.
Tsai and Vandeputte also won both of their doubles matches, making it a perfect 4-0 day.
In doubles, Vianca Corley and Vivica Corley played No. 1 and won 6-0 in the opening match against Western New Mexico in their dual match debuts. Sarah L’Allier also made her Lobo debut in dual match play with a 6-0, 6-0 win over CSU Pueblo.
NOTES: Fifteen of the 30 sets on the day were won by 6-0 scores for UNM.
