NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The Lobo women's tennis squad swept doubles over the University of the Pacific to highlight the opening day of the CSUN Hidden Duals.
Overall, the Lobos went 3-6 in singles and 4-0 in doubles for a 7-6 opening day. UNM played singles against players from CSUN, BYU, and Arkansas State.
In doubles, Vivica and Vianca Corley won 6-4, Ana Veroux and Lea Malazdra won 6-1, and Sarah L'Allier and Ramona Petre won 6-4. The only taut match was with Coumba Ben Niangadou and Yu Yun "Kathy" Tsai, who needed a tiebreaker but prevailed 7-6 (7-3), giving UNM a 4-0 start in doubles.
Singles wins went to Veroux, Malazdra, and Petre. Veroux won 7-5, 6-2 over Emma Moratalla Sanz of host Northridge, and Malazdra won 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in a comeback over BYU's Karina Mohamed. Petre was matched with Vitoria Solis Urdiales of the hosts, winning 7-5, 6-4.
