LAS CRUCES, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico Lobo swimming and diving team finally got in the water in a relay meet against New Mexico State and Utah Tech on Friday.
The meet consisted of just six events, the 400 medley, the 300 fly, the 300 back, the 300 breast, the 4x100 IM and the 500 free. The Lobos, who went into the races shorthanded, lost to both NMSU and Utah Tech.
UNM's second team of Liv Hann, Ava Schlosser and Tuana Uyar were UNM's top scorers in the 300 back, with Schlosser, the Rio Rancho native, turning in the best split at 27.69. That time was the best of any of the Lobos in the 300-backstroke, includingAlex McGill, Kaylah Yazzie and Tahlia Micallef who were on the A-relay team.
UNM also had a solid finish in the 500 free, with the top A-squad of Hann, Summer Wenger, Myra Cansler, and Eryn Quirsfeld coming in fifth. Hann got UNM off to a solid start in the event with a 24.71 first 50, a solid mark for the freshman's collegiate opener.
The same three teams will compete in a more conventional double dual meet on Saturday, starting at 11:30 am.
