Lobo Men Win Lori Fitzgerald Open, Women Finish Third
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico Cross Country opened the 2025 season with a first-place finish for the men and a third-place finish for the women in the Lobos’ annual 5K rust-buster at the Lori Fitzgerald Open Saturday morning, led by a third-place individual finish from Millie McLelland-Brooks (17:39.78) and sixth-place finish from Iker Sanchez (14:37.47).
In total, the UNM men finished with 42 points in the team score to beat out second-place Texas Tech (47), third-place UTEP (91), fourth-place New Mexico JC (94) and fifth-place New Mexico State (131). Behind Sanchez, all six Lobo competitors packed into the Top 15, with Dylan Maloney crossing ninth (14:54.76), Matthew Endrody in 11th (15:01.71), Joshua Abraham 12th (15:03.65), Jayden Hernandez 14th (15:06.35) and Matthew Giardina in 15th (15:07.81). Saturday’s 5K race marked the collegiate cross country debuts for Maloney, Endrody, Abraham and Giardina.
On the women’s side, Charlotte O’Meara (12th, 18:03.14), Millie Robinson (13th, 18:05.94), Mia Torrecillas (18:55.34) and Anya Belisle (22nd, 18:53.52) rounded out the Lobos’ scorers, with O’Meara and Robinson making their collegiate debuts as true freshmen. The Lobo women finished with 67 points in the team score, placing third behind New Mexico State (44) and Texas Tech (48) while outpacing New Mexico JC (113) and El Paso CC (129) in the Top Five teams.
