Lobos Conclude MW Schedule at UNLV

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The Lobos close out the Mountain West schedule on the road with three games at UNLV starting on Thursday.

All three games will be streamed on the Mountain West Network with live stats available.

The Lobo pitching staff has 260 strikeouts to 149 walks, with the 260 strikeouts almost 100 more than the season total from last season (166), the walks going down from 3.8 per game last season to 3.3 this season and the strikeouts going up from 3.4 per game last season to 5.7 this season.

At the plate, the Lobos have already surpassed their total walks from last season, drawing 106 walks in 54 games last season and at 149 this season.

UNM’s 73 doubles this season are the most since 2015 (71) and the 195 strikeouts (hitting) the fewest since 2017 (177). UNM’s 48 errors are the fewest since 2007 (48) and the .964 fielding percentage would be the best in program history. The 4.08 would be the second-best ERA iin the last 20 years.

The Lobos rank among the top teams in the Mountain West and NCAA in several categories.

UNM ranks 27th in the NCAA in sac bunts (38), 50th in team strikeouts per seven innings (5.73), 75th in shutouts (seven), 79th in HBP (batting, 33), 90th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (1.74), 45th in doubles (73) and 88th in triples (10).

DeNae Vasquez-Dickson is second in the NCAA in sac bunts per game (0.37) with Ashley Archuleta 26th in triples (five), Natalie Fritz 14th in fewest hit batters (two) and 45th in saves (three), and McKenna Guest 31st in shutouts (four), 47th in strikeouts (132) and 69th in wins (14).

Among the MW, UNM leads in batters struck out looking (pitching, 91), is second in strikeouts (pitching, 260) and doubles (batting, 73), fifth in ERA (4.08) and opposing batting average (.282).

Guest is tied for the most starts (25) and strikeouts looking (39), third in wins (14) and is second in strikeouts (132). Vasquez-Dickson leads the MW in sac bunts (17) and Ashley Archuleta is tied for fifth in doubles (13), second in triples (five), tied for fourth in hits (59), third in batting average (.418) and fourth in on-base percentage (.512). Allie Williams is tied for seventh in hits (55) and Jessica DeLeon is tied for 16th in RBI (33), while holds the conference lead in sac flies (five).

In MW games, Archuleta is second in the conference in on-base percentage (.562) and in doubles (eight), is fourth in batting average (.483), fourth in hits (24) and sixth in runs scored (18). Hayden Luderer is tied for sixth in stolen bases (four) and Vasquez-Dickson leads in sac bunts (nine). Guest is third in strikeouts (46).

As a team, in MW games, UNM leads in sac flies (nine) and doubles (36), is tied for third in sac bunts (14) and is fifth in batting average (.292) and in on-base percentage (.363). The pitchers are tied for first in strikeouts (84) and fifth in opposing batting average (.320).

ARCH AT THE TOP
In her senior season, Ashley Archuleta is leading the Lobos in nine categories.

The New Mexico native leads in batting average (.418), slugging percentage (.624), on-base percentage (.512), doubles (13), triples (five), runs scored (39), walks (22) and total bases (88) and with a team-high 20 multiple-hit games (18 games with two, one with three and one with four).

In conference games, Archuleta has had a team-best 11 multiple-hit games, had an 11-game streak of reaching base and a six-game hitting streak. She leads the team in batting average (.483), slugging percentage (.700), on-base percentage (.562), runs scored (18), hits (29), doubles (eight) and total bases (42).

Her batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, doubles and number of strikeouts are the best in her four-year career.

Her .418 batting average is tied for the third best in a single season and her .512 on-base percentage is the third best in a single season in program history.

In conference games, she is tied for the conference lead for doubles, is second in on-base percentage, fourth in batting average and hits and eighth in slugging percentage and total bases.

Additionally, Archuleta has hit in the leadoff spot in 37 games, including the last 24.

WALK IT OUT
The Lobos are tied for third in the Mountain West in walks with 149 walks, with 14 different players recording a walk and 13 with multiple walks.

UNM has six players with 10 or more walks, led by 22 from Ashley Archuleta, 20 from Jessica DeLeon, 18 for DeNae Vasquez-Dickson, Allie Williams and Miracle McKenzie with 17 and Sydney Carithers at 14.

Of the 149 walks, 42 have been on 3-0 counts, 49 on 3-1 counts and 58 have come on full counts.

UNM has started the game with a walk in 10 games with Archuleta leading off with a walk in eight games (four times on four pitches and four times at 3-2) and Vasquez-Dickson twice, once on four pitches and once with a full count.

The Lobos have drawn five or more walks in seven games with a season-high seven in the Feb. 23 game against Texas Southern.

Conversely, UNM’s pitchers did not allow a walk in Friday’s game against Colorado State, the fourth time not allowing a walk this season. UNM is 4-0 when not allowing a walk.

TWO OUTS, SO WHAT
Of UNM’s 208 runs, 94 (45.2%) have come with two outs in the inning.

Jessica DeLeon leads the team with 14, two-out RBI with Allie Williams second at 12, Ella Dawson with 11, and Miracle McKenzie fourth with 10. Freshmen have contributed to 49 of the team’s 87 two-out RBI (56.3%).

Of UNM’s 362 hits, 112 have come with two outs (26.0%), with Williams 18-58 (31.0%) with two outs, DeLeon 16-42 (38.1%) and McKenzie 14-37 (37.8%).

ABOUT UNLV
The Rebels are 22-24 on the season, 5-14 in conference, and are hitting .278 with a .432 slugging percentage and .371 on-base percentage. Ariana Martinez leads UNLV with 59 hits, 14 doubles, 12 home runs, 24 walks, 47 RBI as well as a .747 slugging percentage, .404 batting average and .497 on-base percentage.

In the circle, Yanina Sherwood leads with 34 appearances and 20 starts with 10 complete games and a save. Sherwood has thrown a team-high 153.1 innings with 89 strikeouts to 70 walks, 35 more strikeouts than the next pitcher on staff. As a staff, UNLV holds a 4.62 ERA with 159 strikeouts to 141 walks.
