by Connor Gilbert

New Mexico Track & Field recorded new program records in the Men’s 100m and Women’s 4x400m relay along with seven new personal bests and a pair of additional All-Time Top 10 record book entries on Friday at the UTEP Sun City Classic in El Paso, Texas.

In the men’s 100 meters, senior Cam Watts — a dual-sport athlete in football and track and MW Indoor Champion in the 60 meter dash — won the event in 10.24 seconds (+1.5 m/s) to set a new UNM school record. The previous mark of 10.28 was held by BeeJay Lee (2012) and Victor Akhalu (2023). Elijah Jefferson followed in 10.55 for seventh place overall and second collegiately.

Jefferson was the top collegiate finisher in the 200 meters (fourth overall) with a new personal best time of 21.18 (+0.5 m/s).
