By the Numbers: New Mexico hosting Wyoming
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — As New Mexico gets ready to take on the Wyoming Coyboys on Saturday afternoon at 2 pm at University Stadium, here 10 numbers to get you ready for the game. The game kicks off at the 2:05 pm on Saturday, November 2 in Albuquerque on what should be a perfect fall afternoon for college football.
3 – That’s the number of times this season that the Lobos have played in a game with at least 90 combined points. This year UNM has played in games with 90 combined points (New Mexico 50, New Mexico State 40), 95 (New Mexico 52, Air Force 37), and 100 points (Arizona 61, New Mexico 39).
6 – That’s the number of games that Bronco Mendenhall has face off with Wyoming as a head coach, and he is 6-0 all-time in those contests, winning three at home and three on the road.
7 – That was the number of career offensive snaps for Michael Buckley over four seasons and 43 games until last Saturday when Luke Wysong got hurt. Buckley, pressed into service, went off for seven catches on the day for 90 yards in his first extensive action. Buckley is from Mexico and moved to the United States by himself before his sophomore year of high school in order to pursue a dream of playing college football.
19 – That’s the number of catches for Wyoming tight end John Michael Gyllenborg, which leads the Cowboys. Wyoming football, which has a well-earned reputation for being tough and hard-nosed, is happy to have Gyllenborg back , as he missed the opening two games of the season. All 19 of his catches are in the last five games.
22.2 – That’s the percentage of times an opponent has scored off of a Lobo turnover over the last nine turnovers, going back five games. The Lobos suffered from four turnovers against Colorado State, but did not allow a single point on any of them.
77 – That’s the number of meetings between the two front range schools, which makes Wyoming the third-most common opponent for the Lobos. The two most common are New Mexico State (114 meetings) and UTEP (80 meetings). UTEP will be a member of the Mountain West starting in the 2026 season.
447 – That’s the number of consecutive plays played on defense by corner Bryson Taylor, who last left the field on a 1st-and-goal against Arizona with 3:15 to go in the third quarter against Arizona. That game was played on August 31. Since then, Taylor played the last 15 plays against Arizona, and then every play against Auburn (67), Fresno State (76), New Mexico State (70), Air Force (77), Utah State (85) and Colorado State (57).
1,708 – That’s the number of yards UNM was missing in its game with Colorado State due to injuries. The 1,708 yards of rushing and receiving accounted for 51.9% of the offense for the season up to that point over the first seven games, and UNM still put up 453 yards.
2,617 – That’s the number of yards of total offense (rushing and passing) for Devon Dampier, which already is the 10th-most in UNM history. If here were to hit his average of 327.1 yards on Saturday, it would vault him fifth place on the UNM single season chart.
5,481 – The amount of days since UNM’s last blocked punt, the longest skid in the FBS. UNM last blocked a punt on October 31, 2009. Hyrum McCarter, the youngest player on the Lobo roster, was just three years old when that happened.
