ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico men’s golf team returns to action this week when it travels to San Diego for the Lamkin Invitational. The event, hosted by San Diego State at the 7,033-yard, par-72 San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, will run Monday-Tuesday.
The tournament will consist of two rounds on Monday and one round on Tuesday. Live scoring will be available on GolfStat.
The event consists of 16 teams, with half the field in the top 50 of the national rankings. The Lobos are ranked No. 19 nationally and are joined in San Diego by No. 4 Washington, No. 13 Georgia Tech, No. 29 LSU, host No. 31 San Diego State, No. 41 Loyola Marymount, No. 43 BYU and No. 48 Fresno State. Cal Poly, Colorado, Colorado State, Hawaii, Saint Mary’s, San Diego, Santa Clara and Wyoming round out the field.
The Lobos will feature a lineup of Bastien Amat, Albert Boneta, Matthew Watkins, Alvaro Portillo and Valentin Luna. David Davila will compete as an individual.
New Mexico is the defending champion of the event, having won the Lamkin Invitational last year.
The Lobos are coming off a ninth place finish last week at the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas. New Mexico has two victories this season, having won the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in the fall and the NIT to open the spring schedule.
