Three More A-Finals for Lobos in Vegas
LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Jordan Foster, who won the 50-yard freestyle on Sunday night, finished third in the 100-yard butterfly and sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke to give her three A-Finals appearances as UNM had another good day at the UNLV Invitational.
The meet has been a breakout event for Foster. Her third-place finish in the 100-fly came at 55:11, and it came as the No. 6 seed in the heat. Foster’s 55:11 tops the 59:35 she turned in at the NAU dual meet in an event win.
In the 100-yard breast, she carded a 1:03.30 time, which again was about four seconds better than her season-best time
Foster wasn’t the only Lobo to make an A-Final as Layni Andrle finished seventh in the 400-yard individual medley. It was Andrle’s first A-Final of the meet.
In the 100 Fly, Sophia Corder was sixth in the B-Final with a time of 56.94, and Alex McGill won the D-Final with teammate Kaylah Yazzie fifth in that same heat. In the 200-free, Tahlia Micallef was UNM’s top finisher, coming in tied for fourth in the C-Final.
Ola Tomszek finished sixth in the B-Final on the 100-breast, with Kiama Raagas, Maya Clise, and Amaya Oliphant coming in second, third, and fourth respectively in the C-Final.
In the relays, the Lobos took fifth overall in the 200-yard medley relay. Iryna Tsesiul got the Lobos off to a solid start, just out to a fifth place opening 50, and Jordan Foster, Sophia Corder, and Katy McCarter held it, with McCarter able to hold off both Hawai’i and Pacific to maintain fifth place.
UNM didn’t fare as well in the 800-yard freestyle relay as the team of Micallef, Paige Lyons, Andrle, and Linda Franco were the top Lobos in 11th.
In the late diving event from Sunday night, Kristen Hepfer turned a tie for ninth in the prelims into an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 220.50 in the 1-meter dive, finishing sixth. Alice English, who was fifth in the prelims, finished ninth overall.
