Guereca, Biassou Earn MW All-Conference Honors
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – New Mexico Volleyball’s Uxue Guereca and Kaitlynn Biassou were both named to the Mountain West’s All-Conference Team following the completion of the regular season, the league announced Wednesday ahead of opening-round action at the conference tournament in Las Vegas.
The honor is the fourth of Biassou’s career and the second of Guereca’s.
The senior outside duo combined for 853 points – nearly half of UNM’s total point output this season (1,754) – while leading the Lobos (18-11, 10-8 MW) to a fourth-place finish in the league standings that stands as UNM’s best since 2015 as well as the Lobos’ third-straight MW Championships berth. Guereca and Biassou led UNM with 3.41 and 3.32 kills per set and 4.01 and 3.93 points per set on the season, respectively. Guereca was a two-time MW Offensive Player of the Week this season.
Guereca finished the regular season with 12 double-doubles, cracking double-digit kills 19 times and double-digit digs 20 times. Biassou added eight double-doubles on the season, cracking double-digit kills in 23 matches en route to becoming the program record holder in career kills and points.
In MW matches, Biassou ranks No. 4 in the league in kills per set (3.59) and No. 4 in points her set (4.11), while Guereca ranks No. 10 in digs per set (3.04).
UNM will open postseason play this evening, as the sixth-seeded Lobos take on No. 3-seed UNLV at Cox Pavilion at 5 p.m. MT. A win on Wednesday would secure a matchup with No. 2 seed Colorado State on Thursday at the same time.
