Parsons, Dishon notch PRs in Seattle

SEATTLE – Highlighting the New Mexico women’s track team’s performance on Saturday at the UW Indoor Preview, Stefanie Parsons and Samree Dishon posted personal bests at Dempsey Indoor.

Parsons cruised to a time of 4:36.19 minutes in the mile, placing fifth among a field of 54 runners. That time topped her previous best of 4:46.98 minutes, which she achieved on Jan. 29, 2022 at the New Mexico Team Open. Parsons also ran an indoor best in the 800-meters, with a time of 2:11.49 minutes to place 10th among a field of 33 runners. She was just under two seconds off her overall 800-meter PR of 2:10.11 minutes, which she ran during the 2022 outdoor season.

Dishon took 16th place in the mile, running a time of 4:47.35 minutes. Her previous collegiate best was 4:51.78 minutes, which she ran on Feb. 26, 2022 at the Mountain West Championships. Dishon also competed in the 800-meters, running a time of 2:23.52 minutes to place 27th.

Junior Gracelyn Larkin crossed the line with a time of 4:49.07 minutes in the mile, finishing right behind Dishon in 17th place. Larkin also placed 14th in the 800-meters, with a time of 2:16.24 minutes.

Elise Thorner was next to finish in the mile for UNM, posting a time of 4:51.81 minutes to take 19th place. Senior Samantha Valentine also competed on Saturday, placing 22nd in the 800-meters with a time of 2:20.30 minutes and taking 24th in the mile with a time of 4:58.93 minutes.

Stanford’s Juliette Whittaker won the 800-meters with a time of 2:02.48 minutes, while Kaela Edwards of Adidas was the mile winner in 4:32.83 minutes.

Abigail Goldstein competed as an unattached runner on Saturday, taking ninth in the mile with a time of 4:43.07 minutes and 11th in the 800-meters with a time of 2:12.40 minutes.

In Australia, Lobo star Amelia Mazza-Downie was also in action as she placed seventh in the 10k at the Australian World Cross Country Championships with a time of 34:01 minutes.
