ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – The New Mexico men’s basketball team opens its December schedule on Tuesday night as it hosts Western New Mexico. Game time at The Pit is 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast online on the Mountain West Network and on the Lobo Radio Network.
Tuesday’s game will be the debut of enhanced security measures at The Pit, highlighted by metal detector screenings as fans enter. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to avoid delays entering the arena.
The Lobos (7-0) are one of 12 remaining unbeaten teams nationally and are coming off a 69-65 victory at Saint Mary’s last week that snapped the Gaels’ school-record 23-game home win streak. Jaelen House scored 17 points to lead the Lobos in the win, while Donovan Dent had career highs of 13 points and six rebounds to earn Mountain West Freshman of the Week honors.
Western New Mexico has a 6-2 record this season in Division II and are coming off a pair of losses this past weekend on the road in Texas to open play in the Lone Star Conference.
New Mexico holds a 19-3 edge in the series, including an 18-2 advantage in Albuquerque and an 8-0 record in The Pit. The Lobos won last year’s meeting 88-63 at The Pit as KJ Jenkins scored 20 points to lead UNM. The Mustangs’ last win in the series came in 1958-59, an 85-75 win at Johnson Gym.
The Lobos will conclude a two-game homestand on Saturday by hosting UTSA. Game time at The Pit is 2 p.m.
