Lobos Open Week at Home with Wolf Pack

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— After going 2-0 on the week with wins over San Diego State and Fresno State, the Lobo volleyball team enters the second part of the conference schedule with eight matches remaining and another chance against the Nevada Wolf Pack and the San José State Spartans.

The Lobos will face Nevada on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and San José State at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets for the matches are still available to purchase at golobos.com/tickets. For those unable to attend, the matches will be streamed on the Mountain West Network with live stats available.

UNM faced the two teams on the road two weeks ago, falling in five to Nevada and in three to SJSU.

Kaitlynn Biassou had the team highs in kills in both matches with 10 kills against SJSU and 26 against Nevada, recording a double-double against the Wolf Pack. The senior averaged 4.50 kills per set and 4.75 points per set, and was second on the team in digs with 19. A Sparks, Nevada native and Reno High School graduate, Biassou is 5-1 versus Nevada and has tallied double-digit kills in every match against the Wolf Pack. Overall, Biassou has registered 110 kills in the six matches, an average of 18.3 kills per match.

Alena Moldan led with 34 digs, an average of 4.25 per set, while Melissa Walden led with 42 assists, averaging 5.25 per set.

Last week, Biassou led with 27 kills and 3.86 per set while having 4.36 points per set. Anilee Sher led with 67 assists and 9.57 assists per set and Moldan added 33 digs to her season total, averaging 4.71 digs per set.

Moldan currently sits at 1,388 career digs with Biassou at 1,389 points. Biassou joined the top-10 career list in the match at Nevada, and is currently is seventh and 44 points away from sixth. She is seventh all-time in career kills at 1,195 and 34 away from sixth. Moldan is now sixth all-time in career digs in program history and nine away from fifth.

Since the Lobos last faced the Wolf Pack on Oct. 15, Nevada has lost both its matches, losing 3-1 to UNLV and San Jose State.

Nevada is 4-5 on the road this season, 2-4 in three sets, 5-5 in four sets and 3-2 in five sets.

Kayla Afoa continues to lead Nevada with 315 kills and 3.8 per set and in points at 358, with Gabby McLaughlin leading in aces (31). Hikialani Kaohelaulii has a team-high 341 digs, with Andrea Alcaraz next at 262 digs and Afoa (228) and McLaughlin (236) also over 200 digs. Jordan Schwartz leads with 91 total blocks, including 14 solo.
