UNM VB to Face Fresno State Saturday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— After defeating San Diego State on Thursday night at home, the Lobo volleyball team heads on the road to face Fresno State on Saturday with first serve at 1 p.m. MT on the Mountain West Network. It will be UNM’s only match against the Bulldogs this season.

New Mexico enters the match at 12-7, 3-6 in the MW, while Fresno State is 6-15, 0-9 in the conference after losing to Air Force in four on Thursday.

Fresno State is 3-3 in three sets, 2-6 in four sets and 1-6 in five sets, and 2-6 at home this season.

Kaitlynn Biassou led all players in Thursday’s match with 18 kills and 20 points, while Anilee Sher completed a double-double with a match-high 37 assists and 10 digs. Defensively, Avital Jaloba led the Lobos with six assisted blocks and a solo block and Alena Moldan registered a team-high 18 digs. Uxue Guereca also reached double figures in kills with 10, with Lea Zurlinden one shy.

On the season, the Lobos lead the MW in opponent hitting percentage at .180 and are second in digs per set at 15.8, while Biassou is second in kills per set (4.04) and points per set (4.67), while leading in overall points (369) and kills (319). Moldan leads in digs pet set at 4.5 and Jaloba is fourth in blocks per set (1.13).

In just conference matches, the Lobos lead in digs per set (16.4), are third in opponent hitting percentage (.181) and fourth in blocks per set (2.28). Fresno State leads the MW in conference matches in blocks per set (2.56).

Biassou leads the MW in MW matches in kills per set (4.33) and points per set (4.88), with Moldan second in digs per set (4.36) and Jaloba second in blocks per set (1.31).

Nationally, the Lobos are 29th in team service aces (137), 42nd in digs per set, 44th in team digs and 52nd in aces per set (1.73). Individually, Biassou is 14th in points and 16th in total kills, 35th in points per set and 38th in kills per set. Moldan is 38th in total digs and Jaloba is 41st in total blocks.

Following Saturday’s match, the Lobos host Nevada (Oct. 27) and San José State (Oct. 29).
