ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The Lobo volleyball team returns to the Johnson Center Thursday night as the Lobos take on San Diego State.
UNM looks to regroup at home after dropping both matches last week to the Spartans and the Wolf Pack.
Kaitlynn Biassou produced the team highs in kills in both matches with 10 kills against SJSU and 26 against Nevada, recording a double-double against the Wolf Pack. The senior averaged 4.50 kills per set and 4.75 points per set, and was second on the team in digs with 19. Alena Moldan led with 34 digs, an average of 4.25 per set, while Melissa Walden led with 42 assists, averaging 5.25 per set.
Biassou joined the top-10 career list in the match at Nevada, and is currently is eighth and 2.5 points away from seventh. She is seventh all-time in career kills at 1,168 and 61 away from sixth.
The Aztecs enter Thursday’s match 4-15 on the season, 2-6 in conference. Their MW wins were over Nevada (3-1) and Fresno State (3-0), but have lost the five matches.
SDSU has one common non-conference opponent with UNM in UCSD (won 3-1). San Diego State is 1-6 in three sets, 3-8 in four sets and 0-1 in five sets, and 1-5 on the road.
The Aztecs have four players with 100-plus kills, led by Mikela Labno with 161, followed by Madison Corf at 157 and Kayla Rivera at 155. At the setter position, the Aztecs have two main setters in Noa Miller and Sarena Gonzalez with 343 and 293 assists, respectively. Both are averaging 4.9 assists per set. Defensively, Ellie Geoghegan leads with 192 digs (2.74 per set) with Elly Schraeder leading in total blocks at 58.0.
Last season, UNM swept SDSU for the first time since Nov. 19, 2016, earned its first season sweep over SDSU since 2009 and earned its first win at SDSU since 2009.
