Men’s Basketball’s Mountain West Schedule Announced

by Steve Kirkland

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West has announced the complete 18-game league schedule for all 11 conference schools. The Lobos will play nine Mountain West games at The Pit and nine on the road from late December to early March.

The release of the Mountain West schedule completes the 2022-23 schedule for the Lobos, who will play 19 regular season games and one exhibition at The Pit this season. New Mexico announced its non-conference schedule last month.

The announcement of the conference schedule represents the first phase in the 2022-23 men’s basketball schedule process. Mountain West national television partners CBS Sports and FOX Sports will now initiate a selection procedure which will include the shifting of particular games to any night of the week. That will be followed by the identification of network outlets and tipoff times for all games, both conference and non-conference.

For the second straight year, the Lobos are scheduled to open the conference schedule by hosting Colorado State during the final week of December (Dec. 28). Last year, that contest was postponed until later in the season due to COVID issues. January’s schedule at The Pit includes visits from UNLV (Jan. 7), San Jose State (Jan. 17), Boise State (Jan. 21) and Air Force (Jan. 28). In February, the Lobos will host Nevada (Feb. 7), Wyoming (Feb. 14), San Diego State (Feb. 25) and Fresno State (Feb. 28). Utah State will be the lone Mountain West team not to visit Albuquerque this season.

New Mexico’s conference road opener is a New Year’s Eve visit to Wyoming. In January, the Lobos visit Fresno State (Jan. 3), San Diego State (Jan. 14), Nevada (Jan. 24) and Utah State (Jan. 31). UNM’s February schedule includes trips to Air Force (Feb. 11), San Jose State (Feb. 18) and Boise State (Feb. 21). New Mexico ends the regular season with a March 4 visit to Colorado State. UNLV is the only Mountain West opponent that UNM will not visit this season.
