Newcomers Ashby and David Earn All-Conference Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Sophomores Lenny Junior Ashby and Jeffrey David of the University of New Mexico baseball team were named to the All-Mountain West Second Team, announced the conference office today. Newcomers to the Lobos, Ashby and David have been stars in the outfield for the team all season.

The all-conference honors take into account the stats from conference games only and are voted on by the head coaches in the league.

Ashby, a transfer from Odessa Junior College, began his Lobo career after two years with the Wranglers. In his first season, he was the only Lobo to start in all 54 games, including all 30 conference games. In conference play, he led the team with a .363 batting average, as well as 45 hits, 24 runs, 36 RBI and 21 extra-base hits. The Oranjestad, Aruba, native ended the regular season as the conference homerun leader, tallying up 17 home runs overall (eight in conference action). As New Mexico’s starting leftfielder, he accounted for 46 putouts and an assist during MW play.

David played his first two collegiate years at Dallas Baptist, before transferring to New Mexico this year. The Georgetown, Texas, native started in 51 games and 28 conference games this season. Him and Ashby went back and forth between leading the team in many offensive categories this season. He ended conference action with a .325 batting average, 37 hits, 23 runs, 18 RBI and 14 extra-base hits. The Lobos’ starting centerfielder, he accounted for 69 putouts and an assist, making many impressive catches during the MW season.
