FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University of New Mexico track & field concluded the first day of the NCAA West Regional on Wednesday at John McDonnell Field with four Lobos advancing to the quarterfinal round in their respective events.

Camillo Dunninger started the day in the javelin hitting a high mark of 54.51m, unfortunately not enough to qualify for nationals. Abdirizak Ibrahim was set to compete in the 1500m first round this evening but was scratched late due to an injury.

In the first round of the men’s 400m dash, two Lobos qualified for the quarterfinals. Jovahn Williamson placed second in heat three of the event with a personal best time of 45.62s. After all six heats, he placed fifth overall. His time is also the second fastest in Mountain West history.

Jevon O’Bryant was the second Lobo to qualify in the 400m dash, as he placed third in the fifth heat with a time of 46.69s. Both Williamson and O’Bryant will compete in the quarterfinal round of the 400m dash on Friday at 6:50 p.m. (CT).

Matthew Larkin competed in the 800m, placing third in the fifth heat with a personal best time of 1:48.20. He advanced as the 10th fastest overall after six heats. He will compete in the next round of the 800m on Friday at 7:05 p.m.

Rivaldo Leacock took first place in the sixth and final heat of the 400m hurdles. His time of 50.46s earned him ninth overall in the event. Leacock is set to compete in the quarterfinal round on Friday at 7:25 p.m.

On tomorrow’s schedule, the trio of Abbe Goldstein (9th seed), Stefanie Parsons (30th) and Sarah Eckel (35th) will start Thursday’s events as they run in the 1500m run prelims at 6:30 p.m. Tianna Holmes is the 15th seed in the 400m dash prelims, set for 7:25 p.m. The day will be concluded as three Lobos – Amelia Mazza-Downie (5th seed), Emma Heckel (8th) and Ali Upshaw (12th) – run in the 10K at 9:10 p.m.
