Track & Field Sends Split Squad to Texas Tech and Stanford
LUBBOCK, Texas/STANFORD, Calif. – The University of New Mexico track & field team is sending student-athletes to two different meets this weekend as distance runners head to the Stanford Invitational and other competitors head to the Texas Tech Masked Rider.
At the Texas Tech Masked Rider, Camillo Dunninger is the lone Lobo set to compete on Friday in shot put at 4 p.m. (CT).
Dunninger ended his indoor season with a school record in the heptathlon, All-Mountain West selection and first place in the heptathlon at the Mountain West Indoor Championships. He is looking to build upon his success in multi-events this weekend.
Plenty more compete in the Masked Rider on Saturday though. The Lobos start competing in the women’s pole vault at 12 p.m. and have student-athletes competing in almost every event, ending with men’s 4×400 relay at 6:25 p.m.
On Friday at the Stanford Invitational, Sarah Eckel, Abbe Goldstein and Elise Thorner are set to run in the 1500m event, which starts at 6:14 p.m. (PT). The trio also runs in the 800m event at 1:55 p.m. on Saturday. Samree Dishon will compete on Friday in the 5000m run at either 6:55 p.m. or 8:11 p.m. In the 10000 meter run, the trio of Emma Heckel, Amelia Mazza-Downie and Aliandrea Upshaw are scheduled to run at either 8:11 p.m. or 10:02 p.m.
Eckel will be competing in her first events as a Lobo at the Stanford Invitational. Coming off a fantastic All-American finish to indoor season, Mazza-Downie is set to build on her success and run her longest event yet. Thorner, Goldstein and Upshaw ended their indoor seasons with great times in the conference championships, earning themselves All-Mountain West selections.
