Egloff Earns First Career MW Pitcher of the Week Award

by Alma Solis

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of New Mexico’s junior Friday ace Riley Egloff has been named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, announced the conference on Monday afternoon. Egloff earns his first weekly conference award after his best performance yet in the Lobo uniform, in which he set a new career high with eight innings pitched and nine strikeouts against Wichita State on March 18.

The Littleton, Colo., native has been off to a phenomenal start in his second year with the Lobos, hitting a peak performance against Wichita State this past weekend. He kept the Shockers to no runs on four hits and walked a career-low three batters.

After spending the majority of last season coming out of the bullpen, Egloff has established himself as the Lobos’ Friday ace early in this season, going 4-0 in five starts with a 1.80 ERA.

This is also the Lobos second week in a row to earn a weekly conference award, as Lenny Junior Ashby was named Player of the Week last week (March 14).

The Lobos return home after a week-long spring break road trip at Texas Tech and Wichita State last week, hosting No. 11 Arizona on Wednesday at 6 p.m. (MT). The midweek matchup is also Student Promotion Day, in which one lucky student in attendance at the game will win a pair of AirPods.
