COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of New Mexico Indoor Track & Field team had 13 student-athletes named to the All-Mountain West Team, announced the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
On the men’s team, six Lobos made the all-conference team. The four Lobos that made up the 4x400m relay team at the MW Championships, Matthew Larkin, Jevon O’Bryant, Rivaldo Leacock and Gavin Sleeter were named all-conference. Larkin also made the team for his first-place finish in the 800m run. With a second-place finish in the 400m dash, O’Bryant also placed all-conference in that event. With a second-place finish in triple jump at the MW Championships, Aidan Quinn earned all-conference. Camillo Dunninger was the last Lobo from the men’s team, thanks to an outstanding first place performance in the heptathlon.
Seven Lobos from the women’s team were named all-conference. In the distance medley relay, the quartet of Tianna Holmes, Elise Thorner, Abbe Goldstein and Adva Cohen earned first place in the event to be named all-conference. In the 5000m run, Amelia Mazza-Downie finished first, Gracelyn Larkin followed in second and Ali Upshaw finished third for a podium sweep, all three earning All-Mountain West for their performances. The Lobos owned the podium for the 3000m run as well, as Larkin finished first, Goldstein finished second and Upshaw finished third for all-conference placements. Elise Thorner placed first in the mile run to earn all-conference. Holmes also earned all-conference award after placing second in the 400m dash.
NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships are set for March 10-12 in Birmingham, Ala. Final declarations will be made today and the Lobos’ qualifiers will be announced soon.
