Lobos Host Aztecs Sunday to Close Out Week

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.–Coming off of a season-high 98 points and a program-record 21 three-pointers, conference season continues for the Lobos as they host San Diego State on Sunday.

In addition, the Lobos recorded a season-high 25 assists, with LaTora Duff accounting for a career-high 14 assists, and had eight blocks that included five for Antonia Anderson.

LaTascya Duff and Jaedyn De La Cerda hit seven three-pointers each with De La Cerda finishing with a game- and season-high 27 points and Duff with 24 points. LaTora made three, three-pointers, finishing with 13 points and Anderson was the fourth Lobo to finish in double figures with 14.

The Lobos have four players averaging 10-plus points per game both on the season and in conference play with De La Cerda leading with 18.3 ppg in MW games and Shaiquel McGruder leading with 13.9 ppg on the season.

In MW games, UNM is averaging 80.3 points per game, shooting 42.5% from the floor and 40.7% from three, and is making 11.7 three-pointers per game. Additionally, the Lobos are averaging 8.0 steals per game, 5.7 blocks per game and 17.7 assists per game.

On the season, UNM is putting up numbers that stand among the best in the NCAA, third in made three-pointers, fourth in assists, ninth in three-pointers per game, 10th in three-point percentage, 32nd in field-goal percentage. Individually, LaTora is third in assists and 11th in assists per game, McGruder is 12th in field-goal percentage and 16th in made field goals and LaTascya is seventh in made three-pointers, ninth in three-point field-goal percentage and 21st in three-pointers per game.

UNM won both games against SDSU last season by scores of 84-48 and 65-48, with both games in San Diego. In the first game, the Lobos shot 75.9 percent and went 22-for-29 with 11 three-pointers, ultimately outscoring the Aztecs 58-21 in the final two quarters. LaTascya made six three-pointers to finish with 19 points and Anderson finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and three steals. McGruder also had 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds. In the second game, UNM outscored the Aztecs 22-9 in the third quarter and 20-12 in the fourth quarter to win 65-48.

Sunday’s game against SDSU will be the third game on the week for the Lobos and the fourth game in nine days. The Aztecs enter the game having won their last game, a 73-63 win versus Colorado State, and are 2-2 on the road this season. UNM is 8-0 at home.

PIT POLICY
As a reminder, there will be a change in the entry requirements for all events in The Pit. Lobo fans will have three ways to come and enjoy Lobo Basketball in The Pit.  The simplest will be for patrons to provide proof of vaccination status. Proof of vaccination status means having two shots of Pfizer or Moderna, or one shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine (or AstraZeneca for international fans), with the last shot received two weeks prior to the date of event entry. The second way to enjoy Lobo basketball at The Pit would be to provide proof of a negative COVID test. A PCR test must be within 72 hours and an antigen test must be within 24 hours of the event. Home COVID tests are not valid for this type of entry.  The third way to enjoy Lobo Basketball at The Pit is to be under 12 years old, as fans up through age 11 will be admitted without proof of vaccination.

Patrons to all events at The Pit must additionally adhere to all other state health regulations, which currently include wearing a mask in any indoor venue or setting.
