Women's Tennis Drops Season Finale

RENO, Nev. — New Mexico made a solid run at it and was in the match, leading in every remaining match, but Fresno State was able to squeeze out a three-set win at No. 2 singles to clinch a 4-1 victory, as UNM fell in its season finale.  The Lobos end the season 8-9 overall and 2-7 in the Mountain West.

The Lobos dropped the doubles point to fall behind 1-0 as Fresno State swept the Nos. 1 and 2 slots.  From there it went to singles and Fresno Stte took two more wins, at No. 1 over Yue Lin “Polly” Chen and No. 5 over Hsiang-Wen “Albie” Huang.  That left the match at 3-0 Fresno State, but UNM led in three matches and was behind in a fourth.  Satoho Toriumi won a three-set match 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 to make it 3-1.  With everything else in a third set, Fresno State closed it out with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles over Natasha Munday.  UNM had leads by Hsuan Huang and Myu Kageyama in the other to singles matches when it ended.

The match was the final one for Chen, Munday, Danielle Quevedo (who missed the final 10 matches of the season) and Albie Huang.  Those four all were four-year letterwinners and were a part of the same freshman class in 2017.
