Lobos Tied for Third at Lamkin SD Classic

CHULA VISTA, Calif. — Led by a pair of players in the top-20, The University of New Mexico men’s golf team moved up five spots Tuesday and is tied for third overall in a field of 20 teams through two rounds at the Lamkin San Diego Classic.

The Lobos, ranked No. 22 in the nation by GolfStat, finished round two +9 (585), just one stroke out of second place and 10 out of first. UCLA leads the field (575, -1) followed by Nevada (584, +8).

New Mexico leads five Mountain West teams in the field.

Junior Sam Choi sits tied for fourth through two rounds with a score of 143 (-1). He scored an even par on 14 holes in the second round and is tied for first in the competition in pars with 26.

Choi was followed by redshirt-senior Ross Sinclair who shaved two strokes off of his first-round score, coming in at an even 72 on Tuesday. He posts a score of 146 (+2) and ranks tied for sixth in par-5 scoring (4.50, -4).

Freshman Bastien Amat has seen a consistent first two rounds with a 74 and 75, good for 37th (tied) with a score of 149 (+5). Amat is also tied for third in par-3 scoring (3.00, E).

Junior Brandon Shong had a solid start to round two, he was even on the first two holes (#10, #11) before registering three straight birdies to go -3 through the first five holes. He chopped four strokes off his round-one score to finish tied for 58th through two rounds with scores of 78 and 74, respectively (152, +8).

Sophomore Albert Boneta struggled in round two adding seven strokes from day one. He is tied for 63rd with a score of 153 (+9) but is tied with Amat for third in par-3 scoring.

The Lobos are set to return to action at 8:50 a.m. PT / 9:50 a.m. MT on Wednesday when they complete the final round of the Lamkin San Diego Classic. Fans can follow the action via live stats.
