Lobos One Over Through Round One at Lamkin SD Classic

CHULA VISTA, Calif. — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team finished one over in round one of the Lamkin San Diego Classic to tie for eighth place overall. Junior Sam Choi finished -4 on the day to tie for second place in the field of 111 golfers.

Choi shot a 68 in round one on the par-72 course. He tied for second in par-four scoring (3.70, -3) and tied for ninth in birdies with five. He also collected 12 pars, tying for seventh in the category.

Sophomore Albert Boneta finished second on the Lobo lineup, carding a score of 73 (+1) to tie for 33rd while a pair of Lobos, redshirt-senior Ross Sinclair and freshman Bastien Amat, shot +2 (74) to tie for 49th overall.

Amat is competing in his first tournament as a member of the team lineup in his career.

Junior Brandon Shong rounded out the Lobo lineup carding a 78 in round one (+6) to tie for 86th.

Amat and Boneta tied for second in par-3 scoring on the day (2.75, -1) while Sinclair tied for fourth in par-5 scoring (4.25, -3).

Boneta also registered six birdies, tied for fourth overall.

As a team, the Lobos finished the first round with a score of 289 (+1), tying a trio of other squads for eighth including Colorado State and No. 26 Kansas. San Diego leads the field with a score of 283 (-5), followed by USC (285, -3) and Nevada (286, -2).

The Lobos will resume action at 8:50 a.m. PT / 9:50 a.m. MT Tuesday on hole 10. Fans will be able to follow the action via live stats.
