COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Brandon Shook ended each of Wyoming’s last two drives in Lobo territory, including one inside the 5-yard line. Shook was honored by the Mountain West as the Defensive Player of the Week. Shook earned the honor along with Jordan Byrd from San Diego State (Special Teams) and Carson Strong from Nevada (Offense).
Shook is the first Lobo to earn Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week honors since Marcus Hayes was named as such in 2018 after a pair of interceptions in a 42-25 win at New Mexico State.
Shook recorded 13 tackles, giving him 58 on the season in just five games. He was at his best at the end of the game. With 3:22 to go, Shook hit running back Trey Smith behind the line of scrimmage and forced a fumble at the Lobo five-yard line that UNM recovered, keeping the Lobos on top 17-16. After a punt, Shook sealed the win with a fourth-down interception at the Lobo 39-yard line.
UNM takes on Fresno State on Saturday, December 12 at UNLV’s Sam Boyd Stadium in the final game of the 2020 season, a season that will see UNM play all of its games outside the state of New Mexico.
