Men's Golf Through Two Rounds in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team chopped 14 strokes off of its first-round score in round two of the Southern Highlands Collegiate hosted by UNLV on Monday. Redshirt-junior Ross Sinclair led the Lobos in the round, improving his first-round score by eight strokes.

Sinclair shot three birdies and 14 pars in round two to earn a score of two under, 70 following his first-round score of 78 (+6). Sinclair improved 32 spots on the leaderboard between rounds as his 36-hole total of four over, 148 has him sitting tied for 27th overall. Freshman Albert Boneta also holds a two-round total of 148 (+4), as he matched his first-round score of 74 (+2) in the second round of action.

Both Sinclair and Boneta are tied for fifth in par-4 scoring with averages of 4.05 (+1) while Boneta is leading the squad in birdies with six.

Sophomore Sam Choi saw a strong improvement in round two as he chopped six strokes off his first-round score of 78 (+6) to record an even 72 on the day. The sophomore is leading the team in par-5 scoring as his average of 4.75 (-2) is tied for fourth in the category. Choi improved 20 spots on the leaderboard between rounds, landing in a tie for 39th at 150 (+6).

Also ending the second round tied for 39th at six over, 150 was sophomore Ignacio Arcaya who matched his first-round score of 75 (+3) in round two. Junior Galven Green sits just one stroke behind at 151 (+7) after carding scores of 77 (+5) and 74 (+2) in the first two rounds, respectively. Arcaya and Green have each recorded 25 pars so far in the competition to tie for third overall in the category while Green’s par-3 average of 3.00 (E) is tied for fourth.

As a team, the Lobos shot a 290 (+2) on Monday following their first-round score of 304 (+16). Through two rounds, UNM is sitting third overall in pars (115) and its par-4 scoring average of 4.17 (+17) is fifth in the category. The squad is sitting in a tie for 11th at 18 over, 594 alongside No. 3 Georgia Tech.

No. 36 Southern California leads the competition after 36 holes as its 570 (-6) marks a nine-stroke advantage over second-place No. 8 Florida (579, +3). No. 26 Florida and No. 5 Texas Tech are tied for third after day two, each shooting seven over, 583.

Southern California’s Yuxin Lin is leading the way on the individual leaderboard as he has shot back-to-back scores of 67 (-5) in his two rounds to sit five strokes ahead of second place at 134 (-10).

The third and final round of action is set to tee off on Tuesday at 10 a.m. MT with a tee-time start. Round three will be livestreamed for free HERE courtesy of College Golf Live.
