Huang Wins Singles Title and Doubles with Manolescu

Day 4 Bedford Cup Results – Final Results

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — There’s only one thing better than winning one title on a Sunday in the opening tournament of the season.

Winning two.

That’s exactly what Hsiang-Wen “Albie” Huang did on Sunday afternoon, winning the Bravo singles tournament, and then teaming up with freshman Alisia Manolescu to win the Bravo doubles tournament as well.  Huang took on Mihaela Kaftanova of the Wyoming Cowgirls, and won the title in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-2.  That wasn’t the only time on Sunday she would ruin the day of a Wyoming Cowgirl.  In the doubles final, she and Manolescu faced off against Ana Royo and Ana Fernandez.  The UNM tandem had no problem, blitzing Wyoming’s due to the tune of an 8-2 win.

In the Alpha doubles, Bronte Murgett and Natasha Munday finished in third place, winning 8-1 over Northern Arizona’s Adrianna Sosnowska and Emilie Haakansson.  In the alpha doubles backdraw, Danielle Quevedo and Sara Kuuttila-Webbert won 8-4.  UNM’s other doubles team of Yue Lin “Polly” Chen and lost 8-4.

Other singles matches for UNM went well with Manolescu, Quevedo and Chen all winning in straight sets.

UNM are now off until October 11, when the team heads to sunny Southern California for the Women’s of Troy Fall Invitational.
