Lobo Women's Golf Leads Nation in GPA

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team has been named the recipient of the 2018-19 Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-Scholar Team GPA Award, the WGCA announced Wednesday. The award recognizes the women’s collegiate golf program with the highest collective average team GPA in the nation which includes all of the teams’ student-athletes for the 2018-19 season.

The Lobos’ seven team members accumulated an outstanding average GPA of 3.903 during the 2018-19 school year while breaking the UNM program record for highest GPA in a single semester with a 3.94 in Spring 2019.

The team honor comes in the same week that five Lobos were named WGCA All-American Scholars including freshman Kamie Hamada, juniors Caroline Jansson and Reva Morris, as well as seniors Darian Zachek and Emma Edwards.

Not only was UNM at the top of the NCAA Division I list, but the Lobos earned the highest GPA of all divisions as the only team in the country to finish the school year with higher than a 3.90.

The Lobos topped the NCAA Division I list with a 3.904, followed by Coastal Carolina (3.862) and California Baptist (3.831). UNM marked the only squad from the Mountain West to make the top-25 list of highest GPA in Division I. The Lobos were, however, joined by NM State’s women’s golf squad which ranked 16th with a 3.720 GPA.
