Lobos Sweep Boise State, 4-0

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — For the fourth time this season, The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team swept their opponent. This time it was the Boise State Broncos who fell 4-0 to the Lobos. UNM opened the day with a sweep in doubles and three quick singles points from Yue Lin Chen, Danielle Quevedo and Hsiang-Wen Huang which assisted the team in clinching another conference win. 
 
The Lobos opened the day with a sweep in doubles starting with duo Ruth Copas and sophomore Huang. Boise State’s Wiktoria Nosek and Emily Strande were held at three points as New Mexico jumped ahead to post a 6-3 win. In a similar fashion, No. 1 Quevedo and Chen clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Boise State’s Lilian Poling and Wilhelmina Palmer.
 
In singles, No. 6 Chen was again the first Lobo to post a win, this time facing Boise State’s Sydnie Binder. Chen held the Bronco at 6-2 in the first set. Binder was able to earn one more point in the second set but was still defeated 6-3, giving the Lobos a 2-0 advantage on the day.
 
Sophomore Quevedo at No. 4 was next to claim a singles win, defeating Wiktoria Nosek. Quevedo won the first set 6-3 and managed to jump ahead of Nosek early in the second set. Nosek was held at one point as the set hit 5-1. The last point of the game was tied at 40-40 as the sophomore served her way to a win off of a receiving error from Boise State. This win put the Lobos up 3-0.
 
Sophomore Huang was the match to clinch the win for the Lobos, and she to created momentum in the first set which translated to a 6-2, 6-4 overall win. The second set was closer than the one prior, and Huang was back to serve as the set hit 5-4, advantage New Mexico. Huang dropped 30-love before her comeback to win the point. It started with a strong spike from the sophomore to make the point 15-30. It was then an error from Boise State’s Vanessa Timm that made the point 30 all. Another error from Timm gave Huang the advantage as she served the deciding point. Timm’s service return landed out which clinched the singles win for Huang and the overall win for the Lobos. 
 
The Lobos now improve to 10-8 on the season and 3-1 in the Mountain West. They return to action this Friday as they take on Rio Grande rivals, the New Mexico State Aggies at 10 A.M. at the McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium.
 
Note: Chen now has 21 singles wins and 19 doubles wins …
