Lobos Open Indoor Season in Boston

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Coming off of another successful cross country season,several University of New Mexico distance runners will be beginning their indoor track season this Saturday at the Boston University Season Opener.

In total, six Lobos are entered to run, with one in the 3000-meter and mile and four in the 5000-meter, with Ednah Kurgat running in the 5000-meter as an unattached runner.

The 2019 NCAA cross country individual champion Weini Kelati and Adva Cohen will line up for the 5000-meter race just two weeks after completing the cross country season and Charlotte Prouse and Emily Martin will be making their first appearances of the year in Boston in the 5000.

Alondra Negron, who ran just once during the cross country season at the NCAA championships, will appear in the 3000-meter.

In addition, freshman Gracelyn Larkin will get her first indoor collegiate experience in the mile, leading off the day for the Lobos at 11:12 a.m. ET (9:12 a.m. MT).

The 3000-meter has a scheduled 2:55 p.m. ET (12:55 p.m. MT) start time and the 5000-meter will follow at 4:40 p.m. ET (2:40 p.m. MT).

This is the third straight year that UNM has opened the season at the Boston meet, with last year producing historic results for the Lobos.

Kurgat ran the third-fastest time in NCAA history with 15:14.78 and Kelati running the fifth-fastest time at 15:15.24 in the 5000-meters. Kurgat and Kelati were two of four runners that finished under the 15:17 mark and eight that finished under 15:30 at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.

Prouse posted a seventh-place finish of 15:26.01, Cohen ran 15:42.85 and Martin finished in 16:04.47.
