Lobos Wrap up Day Two of White Sands Invite

NASSAU, Bahamas — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team wrapped up the second round of the White Sands Invitational hosted by Houston in the Bahamas on Tuesday. Junior Caroline Jansson led the Lobos for the second straight day and is tied for 22nd overall, a five-spot improvement, with a two-round score of two over, 146.

Of the 14 teams to compete, just six improved their stroke total from round one to round two while eight teams increased their totals. UNM was the only squad to remain consistent across both rounds.

Jansson registered a score of 73 in round two to match her first-round score of one over. Her two-round total puts her just three strokes outside of the top 10 and five strokes out of the top five. Jansson tied for eighth in par-4 scoring with an average of 4.05 (+1) while posting seven birdies, three in round one and four in round two, good for 10th (tied) overall.

Following Jansson on the Lobo leaderboard was freshman Napat “Jenny” Lertsadwattana who tied for 55th overall with a score of 75 (+3). She also matched her first-round score and posts a two-round total of 150 (+6) headed into the third and final round on Tuesday.

Just one stroke behind was freshman Lauren Lehigh who finished round two with a score of 76 (+4). Lehigh’s score was just one stroke over her first-round total to put her tied for 59th overall with a two-round score of 151 (+7).

Both Lertsadwattana and Lehigh are tied for seventh overall in par-3 scoring with an average of 3.00 (E).

Sophomore Tiana Cruz also finished with a 76 (+4) in round two, marking a one-stroke improvement from her round one total, while freshman Alice Rindestig registered a five over, 77 to match her score from round one.

As a team, the Lobos remain in 14th place after round two with a score of 600 (+24). No. 2 Texas continues to lead with a score of 554 (-22). Arkansas sits in second with a score of 572 (-4) while Oklahoma and Georgia tied for third with a 580 (+4).

The Lobos finished the first two days tied for fifth in par-3 scoring with an average of 3.18 (+7) and finished with 23 birdies through the first two rounds of competition.

Round three of the White Sands Invitational will tee off on Wednesday at 8 a.m. ET/6 a.m. MT with a shotgun start. Fans can follow the action live from the Bahamas via GOLFSTAT.
